What I Offer

Drawing on my years in the publishing industry, I offer a range of services across the entire text creation process.

Each of my services is described below. If you don’t see exactly what you need here, please do reach out—each service can be combined with others and customized according to your project’s needs. Most of them can be further tailored to accommodate virtually any budget or schedule.

  • Copywriting
My full turnkey service. You give me a prompt, talking points, or any other background material that might be helpful, and I produce a written piece on your behalf—complete, polished, and ready to present to your audience.

I offer a full range of nonfiction content types: blog posts, presentations, web copy, articles, case studies, proposals, technical summaries, white papers, and more.

We can also set up a recurring schedule—for example, I can produce content for weekly, monthly, or quarterly publication.

    Re-drafting
If you already have a draft or content sample available but it doesn’t yet meet your standards, I can elevate it into exactly what you need.

Using the original work as a guide, I recreate it as closely as possible, bringing it in line with your requirements. The result is an updated version of your work that is high in quality, adapted to what you need, and (as always) ready for your audience. Your unique voice is always preserved, and often strengthened, throughout this process.

Just like my full copywriting service, I offer re-drafting for a full range of nonfiction content types, and I also offer recurring schedules.

    A quick note on availability
Please note that my copywriting and re-drafting services are not available for work produced to fulfill academic degree requirements, including theses and dissertations. However, these services are available to researchers and academics in other contexts. If you’re not sure how this might apply to your work, let’s get in touch—I’m happy to answer any questions.

  • If you’ve got a text that was created with generative AI (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, etc.) and it’s not quite what you hoped, don’t worry—we can fix it.

Similar to my re-drafting service, I use the original text as a starting point and recreate it as closely as possible, bringing it in line with your goals for the work. The result is an updated version that brings your unique voice forward. It’s free of the common pitfalls of genAI content, and most importantly, it has that unmistakable human touch.

Please note that my genAI clean-up service is not available for work produced to fulfill academic degree requirements, including theses and dissertations. • These days, a lot of text is translated via large language model (LLM). Once a text has been translated in this way, it’s crucial for a human to review it and make sure the translation is complete and accurate.

I offer machine translation post-editing (MTPE) for texts being translated from German, Italian, or Spanish into English. I first review the translation against the original text to ensure all elements are present and accounted for. I then edit the translated version to make sure it sounds natural and idiomatic in English, accurately represents the original, and is free of any translation errors.

The result is a translated text that still carries the nuance and care of a full manual translation, in a fraction of the time and cost.

  • If you’ve got a first draft written and you want to take a big-picture look at it, a developmental edit is the perfect place to start.

This kind of editing examines each of the “pillars” of a written work—content, structure, and organization—and evaluates whether they’re appropriate for the work and effectively developing and reinforcing its arguments, or whether they’re currently working against these purposes and could benefit from a change.

For example: Does the structure allow the argument to build appropriately, or does the work feel like it’s constantly changing topic? Is the overall organization of the work highlighting and reinforcing the connections between the main arguments, or is it downplaying or even hiding them? Is the content missing that one “aha” moment that would make everything click into place?

My developmental editing service begins with me reading your text carefully and taking detailed notes on each of these elements. I can then work with the text in one of two ways: I can prepare a manuscript evaluation, a detailed report on my findings that gives you a “roadmap” for your next draft. Or, if you’d prefer, I can make the moves myself via tracked changes.

  • Line editing occupies the space between developmental editing and copy editing. If you’re satisfied with the overall structure and organization of your work but you still want to elevate it beyond simply catching a few typos, line editing might be just what you need.

This kind of editing works at the paragraph and sentence level. It improves the language used to develop your ideas and strengthens the connections between them. This often involves ensuring a consistent tone, optimizing word choice, improving clarity and conciseness, removing redundancy, and looking for opportunities to bring your unique voice to the fore.

My standard line editing package includes reference management (please see below). It can also be combined with my copy editing package.

  • This is what most people think of when they think of editing. If you’re confident in your work’s structure and language, or if you’re in the final stages of preparing your work for a publisher, copy editing is a great fit.

Copy editing involves working very closely at the sentence level to improve spelling, punctuation, and grammar. Elements like chapter titles and the numbering of tables and figures are cross-checked for consistency, and simple math is double-checked too (for example, making sure all the portions of a pie chart add to 100).

This is also the stage where the text is brought into alignment with one or more style guides—whether that’s a specific publisher’s “house style” or a common style manual such as APA or Chicago.

The result is a text that is virtually free of spelling, grammar, and usage errors, and that is ready for print and/or digital publishing.

My standard copy editing package also includes reference management (please see below). This package can also be combined with line editing and/or proofreading.

  • Proofreading represents the last step in the publishing process—the moment where any remaining errors in spelling, punctuation, or formatting are identified and addressed. It takes place only after the text has been prepared in its chosen publication format, whether that’s on the page or on the screen.

Unlike other forms of editing, proofreading does not seek out well-organized arguments or correct grammar. It’s solely concerned with whether the text looks correct and functions well in its chosen format, right before you hit Post and/or the printing presses start rolling.

My proofreading service involves two consecutive steps. First, I take the traditional publishing step of reading the prepared text “against” the previous version to make sure all elements are present and accounted for. I then read through the text again, looking for any remaining errors.

The result is a text that’s as error-free as humanly possible and that is ready to finally meet its audience.

  • Getting the facts right is essential to producing your best work. But as anyone who’s ever managed a writing project knows, ensuring each source is correctly represented can get very complex very quickly.

My fact-checking service is an extension of my reference management service, with one key addition: beyond just maintaining your reference list, I also look into each of the sources you cite to confirm that it’s a reputable source and that your text represents it accurately. If necessary, I can help you identify new sources and correct your work as needed.

The result is a credible, well-supported text that represents its source material with clarity and precision.

  • This service is normally included in my line and copy editing packages, but I offer it as a standalone option too.

Whether you have just a handful of sources or many hundreds, I ensure that each one is present and accounted for, and cited correctly.

I first look through your work and ensure that all the sources cited in the main text are present in your references list or bibliography, and vice versa. (If any are missing, I work with you to ensure the necessary citations or other material are added or deleted as necessary.) I then work through the references section itself, ensuring each one is complete, correct, and aligned with the style guide in use.

    Virtual Research Assistant
For longer and more complex projects, you can also hire me as a virtual research assistant—I can gather all your references for you as you’re working and organize them into the reference management software of your choice (EndNote, Zotero, etc.). The result is a complete and accurate database of all the sources cited in your work, ready for cross-referencing with your manuscript and shareable with others in your team. This can also be paired with any of my editing packages and my standard reference management service.

  • Securing permissions and rights is an essential step for anyone who’s quoting or reproducing outside sources in their work. (Students and academics are the exceptions here, of course!) Unfortunately, publishing your work without completing this step can be quite costly.

My permissions management service begins with looking through your work, either on my own or together with you, to identify any elements that might need formal permission from the original rightsholder. From there, you can take the lead, or I can manage the whole process for you—from contacting rightsholders to tracking responses to monitoring the payment of any necessary fees. If we’re not able to secure permission for some elements for any reason (no response, too expensive, etc.), I can help you find an alternative.

Once this process is finished, you can rest assured that your work is compliant with all relevant copyright laws and that all involved rightsholders have formally approved your use of their work.

If you’re not sure which of these services is the best fit for your project, not to worry—I can help you figure it out! I offer a free 30-minute consultation where we can discuss your project, budget, and timeline, and come up with a solution that’s right for you.

Past & Current Clients

What it’s like to work with me

The editing process can conjure up images of stern schoolteachers and confusing grammar rules. But as a professional, I can assure you—those stressful classroom days are over. Working with me is an open, collaborative process where the only goal is bringing out the best in your hard work. There is always more than one solution, and you remain in complete control of your text throughout the entire project.

Design and plan

The process begins with a consultation where I learn about your project and what you would like to make progress on. Together, we design a custom plan tailored to your timeline, budget, and overall goals for the project.

Initial round

I begin working with your text. You will always be able to see all the changes and suggestions I make, and they remain reversible at any time. And as always, all my changes are in service of improving your text and are backed up by industry best practices.

Collaboration

I return the text to you, and you are able to read through my changes and comments. (We can also go over them together, if you’d like!) You are free to accept or decline any suggestion I make. You then return the text to me, and I pull everything together.

Completion and handoff

Once the text is ready, I complete any last steps (such as fulfilling any editorial requests from a publisher or supervisor) and return it to you. I can also advise on any next steps according to your project’s needs.
